Functional Medicine
Functional Medicine is a field of study aims to combine Western medicine and clinical nutrition in order to offer nutritional and lifestyle counselling to those with chronic diseases and special health conditions (such as autoimmune conditions or pregnancy), in order to diminish symptoms and increase quality of life. It also focuses on preventive care, helping to identify patterns that can lead to outright disease states before they happen. This approach is evidence-based and relies on research to inform practice. It aims to be an adjunct to standard medical care,
not a replacement.
You will receive guidance around nutritional and lifestyle approaches to help reduce your risks for common pregnancy complications and to foster a healthy, empowering and vibrant pregnancy journey.
Leah Gold
RM, CFNC, MA
Leah Gold is a Registered Midwife licensed with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
Prior to becoming a midwife, she did her Masters research in the Peruvian Andes, looking at traditional medicine and women’s health. This is ultimately what led her to becoming interested in midwifery. Shortly after the birth of her first son at home with midwives, she witnessed connections with her previous research in traditional medicine in South America with birth culture in North America. Since then she has been passionate about accompanying parents into the rite of passage that birth is.
Please note that I do not offer diagnosis, nor do I prescribe medications outside of the scope of midwifery in British Columbia.
